The Hart Foundation
Long before fans recognized Bret Hart as “The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be,” he was one half of my favorite tag team of all time. Trained in the famous Hart Family Dungeon, Bret brought his technical expertise together with brother-in-law Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart’s raw power and maniacal laughter. The only thing that looked better with their pink and black was gold, which they held for two lengthy reigns in 1987 and 1990.
The British Bulldogs
I remember seeing the Dynamite Kid wrestle at my very first live event when I was a kid. I was blown away with what I saw from the minute the match started. I pretty much felt the same way every time I saw the bulldogs wrestle too. One of my personal favorite teams of all time, Davey Boy Smith and the Dynamite Kid were tough as nails cousins from England that offered the perfect combination of speed, strength and skill in the ring.
The Legion of Doom
Oooooooooh, what a rush! I had seen the Road Warriors in videos and magazines long before they made their WWF debut in 1990. With their trademark make up, shoulder pads, Ozzy’s Iron Man and a pure power style, they were probably the most dominating team I had ever seen. They might have had to change their name to the L.O.D. when Vince finally brought them to town, but the new name didn’t change how much fun they were to watch.
The Brain Busters
Before cable and the internet, the only way to learn about wrestlers from outside your local area (WWF) was through magazines. I was always fascinated by legendary NWA stable The Four Horsemen. So it was awesome for me when two of the Horsemen’s founding fathers were signed by the WWF. The silly team name aside, seeing Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson every week, not to mention at Wrestlemania V, was truly special for me.
The Soul Patrol
Before anyone could smell what The Rock was cookin, I was a HUGE fan of his dad, Rocky Johnson. In November of 1983 I was jumping up and down in my living room as he and his partner Tony Atlas (who I also liked a lot) defeated The Wild Samoans for the then WWF Tag Team titles. They had broken down barriers, becoming the first African American team in WWF history to accomplish that feat, but I just thought they were cool.
Team Hell No
In the past, Kane had won tag team gold after being paired with smaller superstars such as RVD and X-Pac. But this team was definitely the most enjoyable. During their run together throughout 2012, Team Hell No was the most consistent and entertaining part of the entire company. Kane’s size, strength and brutality matched with Daniel Bryan’s skill, technique and bearded stubborness turned out to be a match made in…well…hell.
Los Guerreros
In a ten to fifteen year period in the WWF/WWE, we went from “train, say your prayers, eat your vitamins” to “lie, cheat and steal.” And it seemed like the more they did just that, the more the fans seemed to love legendary wrestler Eddie Guerrero and his nephew Chavo. Their combination of high-flying acrobatics, technical maneuvers, genuine chemistry and comedic touches made them entertaining in the ring and a lot of fun to watch in general.
The Brothers of Destruction
As compelling as their sibling rivalry could be at times, it was almost more exciting to watch Kane and the Undertaker walk down the aisle together as a tag team. The Deadman and The Devil’s Favorite Demon captured tag team gold on three separate occasions. Historically, they were also the team that unified the WWE and WCW Tag Team Championships, dispatching DDP and Kanyon at SummerSlam 2001 inside of a steel cage.
The Rock & Sock Connection
Over the decades I’ve seen a lot of odd combinations when it comes to the tag team division, from Goldust and Booker T to Kane and anyone he’s been put together with. But the best of all time for me has to be when Mick Foley joined forces with the Rock (I’ve always been a Foley fan). An odder couple there may not have ever been, but the Hardcore Legend and The People’s Champ definitely made for a memorable combination.
Tag Team Tenacity
by Donald McDermott
The WWE recently put out a list of the top 50 Tag Teams in the company's history. They were judged soley on their time in the WWE/WWF. I might not have agreed with everyone's position on the list, but it certainly brought back some great memories. It also inspired me to make a list of my own. Take a look at my ten favorite WWE/WWF teams of all time (in no specific order). Enjoy!!!

D-Generation X
In 1997, Shawn Michaels and Triple H brought their backstage friendship in front of the cameras. DX’s brand of sophomoric humor was a cornerstone of the Attitude Era. After eight years apart, the band got back together in 2006. In 2009, Michaels and Triple H won their first WWE Tag Team Championship together. But D-Generation X was never about the gold, it was about best friends dominating, entertaining and having a blast!
Honorable Mention: Other teams I really like but didn’t quite “make the tag” - The Wild Somoans, Tony Garea & Rick Martel, The Strongbows, The Moondogs, The Hardy Boyz, The APA, The U.S. Express (Windham and Rotundo), The Rockers, The New Age Outlaws, and Edge & Christian.
