Calling All Nerds remembers Bum Phillips, legendary coach of the Houston Oilers in the 1970s. Phillips passed away on October 18 at the age of 90. His death was announced by his son, Wade, the defensive coordinator of the Houston Texans.

* The New York Giants finally get their first win of the season, a 23-7 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. It wasn’t pretty at all, but a first win is a first win.

* The Kansas City Chiefs held off the struggling Houston Texans for a 17-16 win at Arrowhead Stadium. The win elevated the Chiefs to a perfect 7-0, making them the NFL’s only undefeated team after seven weeks.

* After an 0-4 start, the Pittsburgh Steelers win their second straight game with a 19-16 win over division rival Baltimore Ravens. Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham hit the winning 42 yard field goal as time expired at Heinz Field.

* As if a 45-41 loss to the Washington Redskins wasn’t enough, the Chicago Bears lost quarterback Jay Cutler to a torn groin muscle. Cutler could be out for 3-4 weeks.

* Tom Brady’s late game magic against the Saints in week 6 wasn’t there for him on Sunday, when the Jets pulled off a 30-27 upset at MetLife Stadium. The Jets were aided by an OT penalty that turned their game winning 56 yard field goal attempt into a more manageable 42 yarder.

* Peyton Manning made an emotional return to his former city for the first time on Sunday Night when the Broncos took on the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Peyton and Co. came up short as Andrew Luck and the Colts rode to a 39-33 victory.

* The New England Patriots had their second best offensive player back on the field for their overtime loss to the Jets in week 7. In his highly anticipated season debut, Tight End Rob Gronkowski had 8 catches for 114 yards.

* Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jermichael Finley was carted off the field after a big 4th quarter hit during Sunday’s match-up with the Cleveland Browns.  Finley was diagnosed with a bruised spinal cord in his neck. No word yet on when he will be back on the field.

* With starting QB Sam Bradford lost for the season during the Rams' week 7 loss to the Carolina Panthers, St. Louis has signed quarterback Brady Quinn. The former Notre Dame standout will provide depth behind backup Kellen Clemens.
