Into the Mind of a Mad Man
by William Ng
Out of all the incarnations of the Doctor that have been seen, none have been more child like then the Eleventh Doctor, portrayed by Matt Smith. I’ve been pondering about why he acts this way for a while now and after watching The Rings of Akhaten, I have seen a side of Eleven that sent chills down my spine.
First of all, give that man an Oscar for that performance! I always said that David Tennant was the best Doctor portrayal I’ve ever seen but Matt Smith elevated his game after giving such an amazing speech towards the end of the episode. The Doctor’s following speech went as:
“I walked away from the Last Great Time War. I marked the passing of the Time Lords. I saw the birth of the universe, and I watched as time ran out, moment by moment, until nothing remained. No time, no space – just me. I’ve walked in universes where the laws of physics were devised by the mind of a madman. I’ve watched universes freeze and creations burn. I have seen things you wouldn’t believe. I have lost things you will never understand. And I know things. Secrets that must never be told, knowledge that must never be spoken, knowledge that will make parasite gods blaze! So, come on, then! Take it! Take it all, baby! Have it! You have it all!”
If you haven’t seen this speech yet, you should look it up on YouTube. The Doctor is over 1000 years old and has seen many tragedies in his life. He has lost many companions and friends throughout his life. The latest was his best friends, Amy and Rory Williams. Each time a companion leaves his life; he breaks down a little bit more and more inside.
