Inside The Huddle: Previews and Predictions for All of the Games Going on Around the NFL in week 7!
by Donald "Duckie" McDermott
New England Patriots at New York Jets
X’s and O’s: The Jets are at home for the second straight week, coming off a tough loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Patriots are still dealing with a slew of injuries on offense and defense, but luckily their best player, Rob Gronkowski, will be healthy and back on the field this Sunday. The Pats also go into the game with a 1 ½ game lead in the AFC East.
Duckie’s Luckies: Gronk helps the Pats stay on top.
Tampa Bay Bucs at Atlanta Falcons
X’s and O’s: Both the Falcons and the Bucs have had disappointing starts to their season thanks in part to a plethora of injuries. Atlanta will be without leading receiver Julio Jones, popular target Roddy White and running back Stephen Jackson. Rookie QB Mike Glennon will be making the second start of his career for struggling Tampa Bay.
Duckie’s Luckies: Falcons fly high at home.
Cincinnati Bengals at Detroit Lions
X’s and O’s: After a mediocre start to the season through four games, Bengals QB Andy Dalton completed 26 of 40 passes for 337 yards and three TDs in a 27-24 overtime win at Buffalo, earning him AFC Player of the Week honors. The Bengals blossoming offense will come face to face with both Matthew Stafford and the Lions’ turnover-focused defense.
Duckie’s Luckies: Lions win the battle of the big cats.
Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins
X’s and O’s: With Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill getting sacked at a record pace, Miami struggles to ease the pressure on their young quarterback thanks to an extremely poor running game. A matchup with the Bills' porous run defense might be just what the doctor ordered. Miami will have to contend with one of the NFL's top pass rushes, which might prove dangerous for Tannehill.
Duckie’s Luckies: Bills upset the fish.
Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles
X’s and O’s: In what could be the game of the week, the 3-3 Cowboys take on the 3-3 Eagles in Philly for first place in the NFC East. The Cowboys could be without two big playmakers in RB DeMarco Murray and DE DeMarcus Ware. The Eagles lost receiver Jeremy Maclin for the season and will go into week 7 still without a definitive starter at quarterback.
Duckie’s Luckies: Cowboys ride into first place in the East.
Chicago Bears at Washington Redskins
X’s and O’s: The 1-4 Redskins search for a solution while trying to avoid going 0-3 at home for the first time in 15 years. On the other side of the field, Bears QB Jay Cutler is averaging career highs with a 65.9 completion percentage and 95.2 passer rating. He's thrown four touchdowns and no interceptions the last two weeks. The Bears' defense intercepted Eli Manning three times last Thursday night.
Duckie’s Luckies: Skins get Mauled by the hungry Bears.
San Diego Chargers at Jacksonville Jaguars
X’s and O’s: After beating a division-leading team a week ago, the Chargers will try to drop the Jaguars to 0-7 in Sunday's visit to Jacksonville. Jags quarterback Chad Henne finished with a season-high 303 yards against Denver while starting in place of an injured Blaine Gabbert. Justin Blackmon caught 14 of his 27 completions for 190 yards.
Duckie’s Luckies: Jags drop to 0 – and – unlucky – 7.
St. Louis Rams at Carolina Panthers
X’s and O’s: After a rough stretch, the Rams turned things around with back-to-back victories, while Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers continue to search for consistency. Bradford has completed 31 of 50 passes for 339 yards and six touchdowns over the past two games. The Panthers are gettting more confident at home, winning three of four dating to last season.
Duckie’s Luckies: Rams continue to roll in Carolina.
San Francisco 49ers at Tennessee Titans
X’s and O’s: While the Niners have played well on both sides of the ball over the past few weeks, the Titans' offense looks to improve and end their slide. Visiting San Francisco looks for a fourth consecutive victory while trying to hand the Titans a third straight defeat Sunday. Niners QB Colin Kaepernick has thrown five touchdowns and one interception over the last three games.
Duckie’s Luckies: Frisco rolls to four in a row.
Cleveland Browns at Green Bay Packers
X’s and O’s: Injuries continue to pile up in Green Bay, but the Packers still have plenty of reasons to be confident moving forward. Aaron Rodgers and Co. will be looking for their 11th consecutive home victory Sunday against Cleveland. The Browns are trying to bounce back after their three-game winning streak came to an end last week against the Detroit Lions.
Duckie’s Luckies: The Pack Attack continues at Lambeau.
Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs
X’s and O’s: Who would have guessed at the beginning of the season that the Chiefs would be undefeated and tied for first place in their division after their first six games? Many people are equally as surprised to see the Texans struggling at 2-4, with QB Matt Schaub getting booed off the field in Houston. Third stringer Chase Keenum will try to get the job done on Sunday against a seriously tough KC defense.
Duckie’s Luckies: Chiefs in a blowout.
Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers
X’s and O’s: The Ravens have lost two of their last three, including last Sunday's 19-17 home defeat against Green Bay. Over in Pittsburgh. The Steelers finally got off the mat, beating the Jets 19-6 in New Jersey for their first win of the year. Injuries and records aside, when these two teams come together every season you can expect a tough, hard hitting match-up between hated division rivals.
Duckie’s Luckies: Steelers in a squeaker at home.
Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts
X’s and O’s: Emotions will be running high on Sunday night when Broncos QB Peyton Manning returns to Lucas Oil Stadium for the very first time since being let go by the Colts after the 2011 season. The 6-0 Broncos are averaging a league high 44 points per game. Andrew Luck and the Colts are coming off a surprisingly lackluster affair with the Chargers last Monday night.
Duckie’s Luckies: Peyton is still the “Mann” in Indy.
Minnesota Vikings at New York Giants
X’s and O’s: A tale of two struggles. The Giants are desperately looking for their first win of the season, while the Vikings have only one win under their belts so far. Minnesota will give former Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman his first start as a Viking. Giants BQ Eli Manning will try to right the ship, as well as putting a cap on his league worst 15 interceptions.
Duckie’s Luckies: Giants finally stand tall in Jersey.
