Inside The Huddle: Previews and Predictions for All of the Games Going on Around the NFL in week 12!
by Donald "Duckie" McDermott
New York Jets at Baltimore Ravens
X’s and O’s: If you are following the Jets’ win one, lose one pattern this season, then you know that Gang Green should be due for a win on Sunday. Not sure the Ravens feel the same way. Geno Smith looked like a rookie against the Bills last week. I expect the Ravens’s pass rush to make him look like one again.
Duckie’s Luckies: Jets run out of gas on the road.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns
X’s and O’s: After an abysmal 0-4 start to the season, the Steelers looked like a contender again last week, increasing their record to 4-6 with a big win over the Lions. The Browns boast one of the league’s top defenses, lead by the cornerback tandem of Joe Haden and Buster Skrine
Duckie’s Luckies: Steelers get one step closer to .500.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Detroit Lions
X’s and O’s: The Lions are back in the dome in Detroit after coming off a big road loss to the Steelers one week ago. The Bucs will be looking for a third straight win behind a resurgent rushing attack. They've run for at least 140 yards in three straight games for the first time since 2005.
Duckie’s Luckies: Lions get back on track at home.
Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers
X’s and O’s: A storied rivalry in the NFC North has a different look this week, because the Packers will take the field without a lot of their offensive weapons, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Christian Ponder will remain the Vikings starter despite being pulled from a 41-20 loss in Seattle last Sunday.
Duckies Luckies: The Pack does just enough to win a close one.
San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs
X’s and O’s: Kansas City faces another AFC West division rival after suffering their first loss of the season last week against the Denver Broncos. At 4-6, Philip Rivers and the Chargers head to KC looking to avoid a fourth straight loss.
Duckies Luckies: Kansas City shocks the Bolts.
Chicago Bears at St. Louis Rams
X’s and O’s: It’s a battle of the back-ups this week in St. Louis as the Bears take the field without Jay Cutler and the Rams go without Sam Bradford. Bears QB Josh McCown looks to go 3-0 as a starter for the visiting Bears as they try for a fifth consecutive victory over the Rams.
Duckie Luckies: Rams come away as kings of the jungle.
Carolina Panthers at Miami Dolphins
X’s and O’s: If there is a hotter team in the NFL than the Panthers right now someone please point them out to me. Carolina comes to town with a 7-game winning streak that includes a controversial win on Monday Night against the Patriots. The Dolphins are still fighting through the Incognito-Martin drama.
Duckies Luckies: Panthers stay hot in Miami.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans
X’s and O’s: After starting the season at 2-0, the Texans find themselves in the middle of a franchise worst 8-game skid. Rookie quarterback Case Keenum will be back under center for his fifth straight start as the Jaguars look for only their second win of the year.
Duckies Luckies: Texans get a much needed win at home.
Indianapolis Colts at Arizona Cardinals
X’s and O’s: Last year, Bruce Arians won coach of the year honors as interim head coach of the Colts. This week he will be across the field from his former team as head coach of the Cardinals. Arizona has won three straight, while the Colts have won three of their last four.
Duckies Luckies: Cards shock the Colts in Arizona.
Tennessee Titans at Oakland Raiders
X’s and O’s: With both teams sitting at 4-6, the Titans and the Ravens both need this game to stay in contention for an AFC wild card spot. Matt McGloin gets another shot at quarterback for Tennessee after becoming the fourth player since the 1970 merger to throw three touchdown passes and no interceptions in his first career start.
Duckies Luckies: Titans in a really close one.
Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants
X’s and O’s: The Cowboys make their annual trip to New Jersey for what could be the best game of the weekend. Who would have guessed after starting out 0-6 that the Giants could still win the NFC East. The Cowboy defense is in for a tough day without their leader Sean Lee.
Duckies Luckies: Romo helps ride the Cowboys to victory.
Denver Broncos at New England Patriots
X’s and O’s: The storied rivalry between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning continues in the AFC’s biggest and best game of the week. Two big questions in this one are can Peyton play well in the wintry conditions of Gillette Stadium, and is Wes Welker recovered enough from a concussion to be a difference maker.
Duckies Luckies: Brady and Co. find a way to win at home.
San Fransisco 49ers at Washington Redskins
X’s and O’s: Colin Kaepernick and RG III each took the NFL by storm last season as full-time starters in the NFL. They have also both struggled to keep that momentum going this season. San Fransisco needs the win to stay in the wild card hunt in the NFC. And at 3-7 and at the bottom of the NFC East the Redskins would just like to get another win.
Duckies Luckies: Niners stand tall on the road.
