Today worked out well I am happy to report. On Saturdays I usually start out the day with my daughter Meghan, walking two miles around the Ecology Center a few exits from my house here in Long Island. Great way to start the morning if you ask me. Meghan does NOT agree at all. I think my stubborn little girl believes that all workouts she be on DVD’s…and kept far away from her. Lol. I am trying to change that mindset now though, so that she isn’t struggling as hard as I am…or as many of you are…as we get older. Well I wasn’t sure we were even going to be able to be out there today, since Suffolk County got hit with yet MORE snow this week. UNREAL…where in the world is all of this global warming I keep hearing so much about? But luckily the snow was cleared at the Center.

Today was also warm and sunny (for March anyway) and so a’walkin we did go. The other plus for me is that Meg’s mom was there today. So last week I got to deal with the ravings of a 9 year-old who is not the most physically motivated at 10am on a Saturday morning. This week we traded off and she got to share her displeasure with her mom. That gave me the opportunity to jog instead of walk, and I got to run a steady two miles for the first time in a loooooong while. I have been easing back into the jogging game, mostly at about a mile at a time. This was my first two-mile day…and I felt like I could have pushed for a third. It wouldn’t have been pretty, but my friend Jonathan always says “it only has to look pretty in videos, and we ain’t shootin’ videos here son!” One of my all-time favorite J-man quotes…and there are a lot of em.

So two miles was a good way to knock off a few pounds (hopefully!) and also to get ready for some upcoming 5K’s in the near future. Like I said, a great way to start off the day. Spent the rest of my Saturday in the best possible way…hangin’ with the Meg-monster. Went out for smoothies and wraps for lunch, took her to see Jack the Giant Slayer in the afternoon (it’s pretty intense for young kids, so be careful if you’re thinking of going), and she had a play date at the house with one of her friends. Not a bad Saturday at all if I do say so myself.  And before I sign off today I want to wish a VERY Happy Belated 40th Birthday to one of my oldest friends. Mr. MassI Hugh Wyatt. It has been way too long since we saw each other….or even got to talk to each other…but I still think about ya all the time and always wish you nothing but the best…enjoy!
