You’ll never guess what I did today for the first time in a LONG while. Used good judgement? Looked before I leaped? Thought before I spoke? Come on now, don’t be silly. This is ME we’re talkin’ about here. Lol. Nope nothing quite so profound….although it was definitely important. This morning after I dropped my daughter off at school, I went for a run. Nothing too fancy or outrageous. Just a nice, slow pace from my house straight down to Meg’s school and back. About a mile and a quarter total. It wasn’t a marathon. But like I said, it was definitely an important step in getting to where I want to be one day in the not so distant future. Years ago my then-trainer (and still friend) Jonathan told me that if exercise is a tool, then running is your sledgehammer.

And I personally can’t think of a better way to knock this weight off….and NOW. Forget the chisel……I need some demolition here. For me anyway, running was always what got me the best results in the weight loss department (and I use the term “run” reeeeaaally loosely in my case, by the way). Not to mention that in the coming months I have 5K’s coming up at the Bronx Zoo, the Warrior Dash and Yankee Stadium. I don’t know about you, but I am guessing that jogging now could prove to come in pretty handy when those dates roll around. There is also a 5K coming up right out here in Long Island in May called “ The Zombie Run.” Basically you run a 3-mile course through the woods where you get chased by people dressed as zombies! Look online, I swear it’s a real thing.

I gotta tell ya, still not sure about that one. I am a HUGE fan of the zombie genre, from classics like Dawn of the Dead to the hilarity of Sean of the Dead right up to The Walking Dead on AMC. HOWEVER, I happen to live in a BIG, cold, dark empty house that faces the woods. And since I am here by myself a LOT nowadyays, I am not sure that being chased through the woods by the undead would be very good for my sleep schedule. Lol. So I will have to get back to you on that one. But at least for today I was out there with my running shoes on, pounding the pavement again, sledgehammer in hand (metaphorically of course). I plan to put a lot more of those days into my arsenal going forward. Because in the end that really is what it’s all about, right? Moving forward.
