Three days now and yes for anyone betting against me, I am still here. Actually, the betting against me comment is really just a joke. From what I have seen so far it couldn’t be farther from the truth. After only two entries into my personal little journey here, I have gotten a LOT of feedback from people. All of it positive. So thanks to everyone who has taken to time to reads my blogs or to just send along their words of encouragement. It really means a lot to me. And to take today’s little installment in a bit of a different direction, I want to wish a very very Happy Birthday to my mother. It makes perfect sense really when you think about it. Without her, I wouldn’t be here to write this blog, challenge myself to become better or do much of anything else for that matter.
So while health and fitness are important of course, they are going to take a back seat for right now, while I dedicate this entry to a special person on her special day. In better times, Margaret “Peggy” McDermott was just about the roughest, toughest, strongest person I have ever known. I also can’t think of anyone who ever had a bad word to say about her (Well maybe one, but your mother-in-law isn’t really supposed to like you anyway…so we won’t go there…lol). Anyway, my mom is the one who taught me about the importance of things like working hard, doing the right thing, and always being there for your family. Now there may be a few people out there who will disagree with this statement…
…but I personally consider myself to be a good dad and an all around good person in general. My mom is one of the biggest reasons why. She lead by example without even realizing it. Her strength and her ambition inspired me to work hard at whatever I do. Her loyalty and generosity to the people around her drove me to be as caring and as helpful as possible. And her dedication to her family made me want to be the best father I could be for my daughter. It is truly a shame to see her where she is now. But she is still with us, and that is really all that matters. So this is for you mom. I love you. The lessons you taught me will never be forgotten. Tomorrow I will be back to the grind here once again. But for now.…if you will excuse me…I am meeting my mother for dinner on her birthday.
G’nite!
