If you are a movie fan…and especially if you are a baseball fan (I am both incidentally)…then I highly recommend a movie from way back in 1988 called Bull Durham. It stars Kevin Costner as “Crash” Davis, a minor league catcher who is coming up on the end of his career. Crash is put together with “Nuke” LaLoosh (Tim Robbins), a highly-touted young pitching prospect who has a right arm that is as wild as his partying ways. Susan Sarandon plays Annie, the baseball groupie/muse who gets caught between them both. It’s got a little something for everyone. A little bit of action, some comedy, a few life lessons and a dash of drama and romance.

Definitely a good movie, whether you like baseball or not. Trust me on this. I haven’t steered you wrong yet have I? Lol. So why reference a 25 year-old movie all of a sudden, other than to make myself feel old (Saw it in the movies – oy!). Well there is a scene in the film where Robbins’ Nuke finally starts to settle down and listen to the words of wisdom of Costner’s world-weary catcher, Crash. After pitching a stellar inning where he receives nothing but praise from his teammates, Nuke looks to Crash for the same kind of approval and pats on the back. But instead, all he gets for his trouble is criticism from his catcher.

Nuke looks at him and asks, “man, can’t you even let me have my moment?” Crash looks over his shoulder at him as he gets ready to trot back out onto the field and says quite simply, “the moment’s over.” That is pretty much how I was feeling today. I took a minute to think back over the past two weeks. I gave myself a moment to enjoy the fact that I have gotten back on track, that I am making an effort again, that I have lost a few pounds and that I have been able to write this blog every day again. It was a good feeling. And I let it last for all of maybe five minutes. Then I heard the words from the movie in my head, “the moment’s over.” Time to get my head in the game again and keep on moving forward.

Until tomorrow…..
