First and foremost, before I get started today, want to wish a VERY Happy Birthday to one of my favorite people in the entire universe. My brother from another mother…..my esteemed colleague…..Charlie Bonagura. Happy Birthday my friend. Looking forward to celebrating many many many more together. And now, on with the blog….lol. Here is a quick tip if you are looking to get some exercise but don’t have a lot of time on your hands. All you really need is a tiny bit of personal space…and an ordinary deck of cards. Just you average deck of playing cards. Nothing fancy at all. Then you take four exercises that are easy to do (don’t start off with anything too challenging).
For me so far in the past week it has been sit-ups, push-ups (and yes, I still do some of em on my knees), good old-fashioned toe-touches, and leg extensions (lay on your back, draw your knees up to your chest, then extend em forward so they are straight out. Pull em back to your chest again….that’s one. Don’t put your feet back on the floor til your set is over). Now assign one exercise to a suit in the deck. Say sit-ups are hearts, push ups are diamonds, etc. Stretch out, get yourself settled, then turn a card over. Whatever the number is on the card…that is how many reps you do of the exercise you assigned to the suit. An 8 of hearts…8 sit-ups. A 9 of spades? Nine leg extensions.
Picture cards are ten reps…aces are 20. You keep on flipping….don’t let yourself rest…until the deck is done. I learned this a few years back from a friend who turned out to be not much of a friend after all. But I still have to credit him with a solid workout. The good thing about it is: anyone can do it….you can start really simple and add more challenging exercises later on…and you can literally do it ANYWHERE. Home while your favorite TV show is on, your office at lunchtime (cubicles are harder I admit), a hotel room if you’re away, even your cell if you are REALLY away (hey, I don’t judge). So there you have it. Simple, free and effective. We aim to please here at the Life Worth Weighting For blog folks! Have a great day. Talk to ya tomorrow!
