A Life Worth Weighting For by Donald McDermott
March 3rd, 2013
Here is something you might be a wee bit shocked to hear, but since the start of the New Year I have made a conscious effort to spend my Sunday mornings in church. Now I know that might not be your thing per se. To tell you the truth, I am not always a hundred percent sure it is my thing either. BUT…Meghan and her mom are there every week…and since seeing my little girl is something I can never get enough of….I go as often as possible. No expectations of any kind from me…and you won’t ever have to worry about hearing me preach about what you should or shouldn’t be doing. We are all on our own little trips here in life…and I would never pass judgement on anyone. This is just part of mine. I have to say I feel pretty good when I leave there.
At least that’s something. And if getting closer to my daughter every week brings me a little closer to God too, then I guess that’s not really a bad thing either. Anyway, the reason I told you that little tid-bit about myself, is because the church is roughly two miles from my house. And I know this because I chose to walk there and back this morning. Tracked the distance on my phone…clocked a little over four miles and burned several hundred calories. Definitely a good way to start out the day…especially with me being on a collision course with my scale again tomorrow morning. When your time is filled to the brim with obligations the way mine is a lot, there isn’t always time for traditional workouts. So you kind of hafta turn anything you can into exercise.
Walking is definitely the easiest and most effective way to go in my opinion. We all have someplace to go…and everyone can walk. It’s just getting started that is always the hard part. For instance….a stubborn 9 year old who does NOT want to be out in the cold on a Saturday…lol (read yesterday’s blog if you don’t get that joke). Anyway, with the scale waiting for me tomorrow morning I made sure to be extra careful with food today. Just a salad and a tuna sandwich for lunch, yogurt and a granola bar as a snack, and baked chicken with rice and black beans for dinner. YUM…..who says that eating healthy can’t taste good too? Not me that’s for sure! Okay, time to make the donuts….and not eat em! Lol. On my way out to work again. Have a great night….hope it was a great weekend too.
Until tomorrow….
