A Life Worth Weighting For - Day Eight by Donald McDermott

February 25th, 2013

Okay, so while most of you were all warm and cozy in your beds last night, working on a comfy night of dreams, I was in a delivery van. Rolling through the streets of Manhattan with my two trusty sidekicks. We were bringin’ PARENTGUIDE magazine to the masses. A fine publication. I highly recommend it if you’ve never been lucky enough to see it. And I’m not just saying that because I am one of the editors. But anyway, I crawled through the door at about 3:30am this morning. Crashed out at around 4 o’clock. Don’t even remember dreaming before my alarm woke me up at the stroke of nine. Then it was time for the long walk to my bathroom scale.

It was waiting for me right where I had left it. All smug and arrogant, thinking it could get into my head. I didn’t play its little mind game though. Instead I showed no fear. Took a deep breath, stepped right up, and gave the numbers a few seconds to settle. I finally mustered up the strength to look down. Being able to see your own feet is always a good sign…lol. I am happy to report that I lost four pounds this week. Now as someone who admittedly has trouble sometimes waiting for things to happen slowly, I have to say I was hoping for more. But don’t get me wrong. I am happy. Losing four pounds puts me four pounds closer to my goal weight.

It’s also four pounds less that I have to lose. Most importantly, it’s four pounds that I did…not…GAIN. I will take it. Not a bad start. I’m definitely on the right path and off in the right direction again. And how did I reward myself for a week well spent? Egg whites and toast for breakfast, followed by a sandwich and salad for lunch. Then tonight on my TV, while the superstars of the WWE are giving it their all on Monday Night RAW, I will be giving my all right back with some good old-fashioned exercise to end the day. Not the way someone else would celebrate a personal victory perhaps. But it might just be the smartest…and the healthiest.

Little steps lead to big changes…
