Happy Mother’s Day!

Hoping that all of the moms and the soon to be moms out there have the best day ever. Or HAD the best day ever, since by the time you read this it will be just about over. Meghan is spending the day with her mom today, while I headed into Queens to hook up with my brother and sister and spent the afternoon with the woman who gave us life. For those of you who may not know, my mom had a stroke a few years back. I think technically she had a couple of mini-strokes…and something called congestive heart failure too. Whatever it was in the most technical of medical terms, it definitely did a number on her both physically and mentally. She will answer questions if you ask her directly, but they are always just one word answers. Most of the time she sits in her wheelchair and just stares straight ahead.

It took the use of most of her legs by the way, in case you were wondering about the wheelchair. It’s really sad. Especially if you remember my mom the way that she was. Mom was the one who taught me about the importance of hard work. She was always hustling, running from place to place, the one person who could always get things done. She was the one that most of us leaned on when we needed something taken care of. She was also the person who was never afraid to get up in your face and speak her mind if she thought you were wrong. Well dad was working today, so the three of us had lunch with mom…and it was nice. My sister picked up chicken and rice for lunch. I brought a heart-shaped  “Love You Mom” cake. I think she appreciated it. It’s hard to tell sometimes with her.

I am definitely glad that I made the effort and got to see her. Happy Mother’s Day mom. Love you always. After lunch I made the looooong trek back to my Long Island homestead. And speaking of being home, I wasn’t sure what the day was going to bring time-wise. So I decided to get up early this morning and go out for my daily run. Have a lot on my mind these days. Let me tell you, dragging myself out of bed early this morning, I soooooo didn’t feel like running. But I did it anyway. Pushed through 2.5 miles and hit my total of 15 for the week. Now after a long day physically and a draining day emotionally, I am heading down to the man cave to get in a quick workout and the latest episode of the geat HBO series Game of Thrones. Have a good night all.

Until tomorrow!
