A Life Worth Weighting For - June 25th, 2013 by Donald McDermott
"Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts."
- Steve Prefontaine
Third really hot day in a row. And since Meghan was with her mom today, I wasn’t under any kind of time constraint to get my run in. Sooooo, I definitely played it nice and safe. I waited for the sun to go down just a little, and THEN I went out and put my feet to the pavement. Needless to say, I was able to get in all three miles without stopping. Now optimists can say that I did it the smart way. Nay-sayers and pessimists can say that I “cheated” because I did it when it was the “safest” part of the day to go for a run. Know what I say? I jogged three miles today.
Take it for what you want, but I got my time in. Not only that, but since I did have some extra time to myself today, I made the most of it. Followed up my run by heading right downstairs to the man-cave where I banged out a good cardio routine with a whole lotta reps with light weights mixed in. Was TOTALLY spent when I was done. It was a good kinda spent though. Dragged myself up the stairs when all was said and done. Took a shower to wash all of those toxins off me.
Made myself chicken with red beans and veggies for dinner, and then even went out and cleaned up the garage a little bit. Where did I find the energy? Your guess is as good as mine. I’m just glad it was there when I needed it. Definitely going to sleep well tonight though! Oh and by the way, I got so wrapped up in personal stuff yesterday that I totally forgot to mention my little weekly date with the scale. I am down another pound this week. Looking forward to getting out of the two-fifties next week!
Until tomorrow!
