A Life Worth Weighting For - May 27th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

First and foremost before I even get started, just wanted to take a brief moment to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day. I know that it has become just another day off from work or school to most people, but at some point today lets all try to take a moment to remember all of the people who have sacrificed themselves for our freedom. To help commemorate this historic day, the town of Medford (where I live) has an annual parade not far from my house. In the past I have gone to watch…but this year I actually got to march in it…which was pretty cool. My little girl Meggy walked with the children’s ministry of our local church, while I walked right behind her in my jersey from the church softball team.

Not a bad way to start off the day. Probably a good solid mile walk this morning. Meg was with Lori today (bleaaah) so as soon as I got back to my big empty house from the parade I went out for my daily run. Upping the ante this week too…shooting for THREE miles a day this week…a grand total of 21 by the end of the week. Got back home feelin’ nice and sweaty and accomplished. Took a loooong refreshing shower, made a little something for lunch, and then headed into Queens for my weekly visit to the family. Stopped by to see mom first, and sadly she really wasn’t “there” too much today. Oh well, what can ya do? Good days and bad days I guess. After, dad and I drove down to Cronin’s for dinner…

….which is always good. And I have to say I look forward to us getting to spend some one on one time together every week too. After dropping dad off outside the apartment building where I spent the first two decades of my life, I headed over to the printer in L.I.C. to load up for the night, picked up Cody, and headed back into the city again. Really didn’t feel like much of a “holiday” weekend to me, unfortunately. I worked til the wee hours just about every night and didn’t get to see Meggy very much. Not a lot of celebration there, ya know? I did step on the scale this morning and am happy to report that I am down another pound. And you know what they say, any pound I lose today I won’t have to lose tomorrow. I actually don’t know who says that, but somebody really should.

Until tomorrow!
