I had something really interesting happen to me today. Okay, so just to recap, I challenged myself to jog a grand total of 18 miles for this entire week. Going into this morning I was at 15…leaving just three short miles to get me to my goal. I got home at around 6am this morning and couldn’t wait to crash out for as long as humanly possible. Didn’t even set my alarm (a big deal for me). Got out of bed around 1pm and ended up heading into Queens to run some errands before going to work yet again tonight. I didn’t want to end up missing out on my run and my goal for the week today either…so I ended up making the most of my surroundings…and decided to get my jog in on the track at Astoria Park. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but “back in the day” you could always find me down at A.P. And now here I am all these years later…running the track.
Haven’t done that down there in FOREVER. Well the cool part of my day came while I was breaking the 18 mile mark for the week. I ended up getting noticed by a threesome of twenty-somethings…two very cute little girls and one guy. They seemed genuinely surprised to watch me circle the track a dozen times (4 times around is a mile…I did three miles…you do the math…lol). And I know I might sound just a wee bit paranoid about it, but trust me. When you look a certain way and have been around for as long as I have, you recognize the signs….even with buds in your ears and your ipod on. Have to tell you too, there is a certain amount of personal satisfaction in knowing that if you’re patient, you can outrun a girl who is half your size and half your age. Had SUCH an urge when they were finished to ask how many laps they had done.
My very sarcastic answer would have been “Oh, well that’s almost as good as twelve laps…I guess.” Ha ha ha ha. I am generally not someone who likes to start trouble. But sometimes it is just sooooo hard to resist. Anyway, another personal goal set up…and then knocked down…bu yours truly! When all was said and done I did a quick-change in the back of the van and headed over to get Jesse and Cody…the Brothers Berberich…to head out on another attempt to bring copies of PARENTGUIDE News to the masses of Manhattan. I think I may increase my number of miles for next week by the way. Just because I can’t resist. And what’s another mile or two here and there between friends, right? Well for now what I need more than anything else is some sleep. The mornings come early around here folks…gnite!
Until tomorrow!
