A Life Worth Weighting For - May 25th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

Woke up this morning feelin’ rested and recharged. Kept my evening workout pretty short and sweet last night (just like me – lol). It is going to be a long weekend and I didn’t want to go into it chasing sleep, ya know? Lori picked Meghan up bright and early today (booooooo – hissssss – booooooo!) so I took advantage of the time on my own by getting in BOTH of my daily workouts at the same time. Started off by stepping off the curb and going for my 2.5 mile run. For those of you keeping score at home, I am now at 15 miles for the week. Not too bad, huh? Specially when you consider the fact that I wasn’t running at all just about two months ago. Last week’s goal was 15 miles. This weeks is 18…and barring something totally catastrophic I should hit that tomorrow with no problem.

That poses an interesting personal question. Do we raise the bar again next week, or is 18 perfectly fine for the moment? I’ll have to think about that. Any-hoo, after my run I headed down to the man cave and cranked out a nice, slow workout consisting of cardio down on the matts (100 reps each of push ups, sit ups, squats and le extensions), followed by a pinch over 300 reps with the weights. Still tossin’ up the really light stuff just so you know…but either way 300 reps is nothing to scoff at, right? I certainly didn’t think it was. Oh yeah and just a little personal recommendation here. I put on the movie version of Rock of Ages to keep my mind occupied while I was getting’ my workout on. I am a total child of the 1980’s and I thought it was pretty good overall. The soundtrack brought back a LOT of great memories….and I thought that Tom Cruise was really good too.

And my fellow pro wrestling fans will recognize Big Daddy Cool himself, Kevin Nash, as one of the bodyguards for Stacey Jaxx (Cruise)….definitely recommend…although I hear the play is WAY better.  After getting my reps in, took a long shower, got myself as pretty as anyone that looks like me can be “pretty.” And then I headed out to a birthday party over in Hicksville. Happy 8th birthday Madison, and a very special thanks to her mom and dad for inviting me. It was great to be there…and Meghan was there too….so I got the added bonus of seeing my baby on a day I didn’t think I would….SCORE! From there it was into Queens to pick up my trusty sidekick Cody for a night of deliveries. And now I am home again…falling through the door as the sun comes up…ugh. Feeling good though. Still staying productive. Hope everyone out there is enjoying their own holiday weekend so far!

Until tomorrow!
