A Life Worth Weighting For - May 21st, 2013 by Donald McDermott

Can someone explain to me how it is possible that jogging 2.5 miles is more difficult than jogging 4 miles? Don’t answer that. I already know. This past Sunday was my last day of the workout week. I had challenged myself to run 15 miles for the week. As of Sunday I was stuck at 11 miles. So…stubborn fool that I am…I pushed myself to run 4 miles and hit my mark. Sometimes being so hard-headed actually pays off for me. Not nearly enough though if you ask me. Lol. Anyway….I set a nice easy pace…let the rain cool me off….and pretty much cruised my way to four miles.
You would think then that stepping out for a 2.5 mile jog yesterday and then again today would be a piece of cake right (don’t you just love food phrases?). Well that sooooo wasn’t the case. The warm weather I have been dreading seems to be just about here. And with the rain the other day we also got…ahhhhh humidity…how I’ve missed you. NOT! During my last two runs the air has been hot….and THICK. Ugh. Not a lotta fun for little Harpo (Finding Nemo reference). But I did it. Many people would say I’m stronger for braving the harsh conditions too. Finished today at 5 miles so far this week with 13 more to go by the end of Sunday.
Last night I was totally wiped out and tried to crash fairly early after returning home from my family in Astoria. Tonight I am heading down to the man cave to cap off my night with another solid workout. In an ideal world, all of this weight comes off by the end of the summer. The way that I want to break through that personal mark, is by getting my run in early every day….to sort of kick-start the old metabolism. Then finish off each night with a workout that blends together cardio and light weights. I’ve said before that if you can perceive it, then you can achieve it. I can definitely see it. Now all that is left is the work. I say bring it on.
Until tomorrow!
