A Life Worth Weighting For - May 15th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

     - It’s called a workout because it requires EFFORT. Without the work it is simply an OUT.

Today was interesting. A life lesson, learning experience, Lifetime Channel movie kind of a day. Not that I watch Lifetime movies, cuz real guys don’t do that. So I am just guessin….lol. Anyway, today taught me a lot because I spent a good part of it comforting a young friend of mine. He recently lost his girlfriend, the love of his life. You know how in the movies there is a couple that gets together, then something takes them apart, and there is the big scene at the end where the guy takes a big risk, makes a big speech, and they live happily ever after?

John Cusack with the radio over his head, Billy Crystal running to Meg Ryan on New Year’s Eve, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in the rain….that kind of stuff. Well today’s life lesson, and I hated to tell him this, is that stuff like that really only happens in the movies. Sometimes you make your move…and not only does it not work…but she doesn’t even really care. I did commend his effort though. If you don’t take your shot you never know. And as much as it hurts now for him, life goes on and he will be ok. Never fun to see someone you care about hurting like that though. So that was a big part of my day today. Another big part of my day was occupied by work.

This is “deadline” week when we send our papers to the printer (I work for PARENTGUIDE News, a monthly magazine for those who don’t know). So I was pretty busy all day. Not too busy to get my run in though. The more you do something, the more it becomes part of your regular routine. Running is definitely becoming that way for me. I grinded out two miles…which has me at 6.5 for the week. Shooting for 15 for the week once again. I think I am going to increase that number next week by the way. Today has been a draining day for me…both physically and emotionally. I haven’t been feeling my best today. Hoping that a good night’s sleep makes a big difference for me.

Until tomorrow!
