A Life Worth Weighting For - May 9th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

           -  Don’t FIND the time to exercise, MAKE the time to exercise.

                                                 - Anonymous

I don’t know if you have ever heard this expression before, but it goes “if you can perceive it, you can achieve it.” It breaks down basically to if you can picture yourself accomplishing a certain goal in your head….then you can reach that goal one day. Of course there is an endless amount of hard work that may need to be done to get there too. But it all starts with you believing in yourself. That is something that I haven’t always been able to do in the past….but I am really trying to reinforce it in myself every single day now. Now don’t get me wrong. For the most part I am lucky enough to have a really strong support system around me. But no one and nothing in life is perfect all the time. Things can be rough sometimes.

Lately I have been let down by more than one person in my life when I really didn’t expect it. People can be petty, people can be selfish. People can tell you that haven’t changed when it is obvious they have. Others can tell you that have changed and then they remind you in hard fashion that they haven’t changed at all. Times like that would make me crumble in the past I am sorry to say. Not anymore. From now on I will find a way to turn my negatives into positives. I will push past all of the drama and come out on the other side being better for the effort. I will forget about the past and the things that can’t be changed. I will work as hard as I can to become the man that I always knew that I should have been. That’s what I did today.

After a GREAT night’s sleep and a turkey on whole wheat with a side salad for lunch, I headed out onto Fire Avenue for my two mile run. It’s not always easy. I sure won’t lie to you. But I got there, clocking in my 8th mile for the week. Seven more to go in three days. Well to help get me through the run today, I pictured myself reaching all of the personal goals that I have always wanted to achieve in my life….and there’s quite a few of em. And I know it sounds a little weird, but I didn’t just picture it….this time I could FEEL it….it was a good feeling. And you know what they say (at least I say it anyway)…”if you can perceive it, you can achieve it.” Well I got the perceiving part down…the achieving part is all up to me.

Until tomorrow!
