A Life Worth Weighting For - May 8th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

“Never give advice unless you have walked the walk, because anybody can talk the talk.”

                        ― Valencia Mackie

Last week I made a challenge to myself. I wanted to get my tired old buns moving a little bit more. And for me, that means jogging. It is the one exercise that has always paid the highest rewards for me. And while other people seem to really hate doing it, I kind of enjoy it. You KNOW you’re working hard, all that sweat pouring off you doesn’t lie. You also know that you’re getting a full body workout. And most importantly, it clears my head, which is as big a plus as the weight loss for me these days.  So last week I challenged myself to jog a total of ten miles for the entire week. Doesn’t sound like a huge feat to accomplish, right? You wouldn’t think so. Sometimes for me it’s all about finding the time to get it done.

I am happy to report that I did find the time, even with a crazy work schedule and the usual personal drama that I just can’t seem to shake lately. But I set aside a little time every day to jog 1.5 miles….which got me to 10.5 for the week. I was happy with that. Not satisfied….but happy. So this week I decided to up the ante a little bit…and I raised the total mark to 15 miles instead of ten. That’s at LEAST two miles a day….with one bonus mile that I have to stick in there somewhere. Can it be done? Of course it can. Will I be able to do it? Now THAT’s the question, isn’t it. Well we are three days into the new week and I am at 6 miles so far….which leaves 9 miles to do in 4 days. It’s going to come right down to the wire I think.

Put your money on me though. I am motivated, feeling pretty good overall, and a pretty solid bet nowadays. Trust me, I know of what I speak. No one knows me like I do after all. And while we are speaking of solid bets, here’s another one. I will be sound asleep RIGHT after I sign off on tonight’s blog. Cody and I have been pushing really hard to get my second job done for the month. I have been working on around 3 hours of sleep a night for the past week straight…give or take. We finished up last night officially. THAT means it’s time to celebrate! And by celebrate…I mean sleep. Lol. I am achy, weary, emotionally drained and half asleep already. I do believe my pillow is calling me. I am pretty sure I have earned it.

Until tomorrow!
