“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the
more I have of it”
- Thomas Jefferson
Since I started working from home a few months back, my daily commute consists of getting out of bed and walking into my home office. So you can imagine my surprise when my alarm clock jolted me out of bed today at 6:30am. My attempt at getting in an early morning workout today. Who came up with THAT bright idea? Oh wait, it was me…ugh. I am constantly looking to switch it up and try new things these days. So I thought that maybe working out first thing in the morning would kinda kick-start my metabolism for the day. Turn my inner furnace on, as a wise old trainer once told me. So I rumbled down the stairs to my man cave, dropped down on the mats, did some stretching….
….and cranked out a quick circuit of 100 sit-ups, push-ups, leg raises and squats (it actually wasn’t that quick). Then I did another circuit of 200 reps with some VERY light weights. Tried to hit as many different muscle groups as I could think of, which isn’t all that easy that early in the morning. By the time I sat down in front of my computer to work at 9 o’clock I was worked out, fed (yogurt and a granola bar – wasn’t that hungry), and ready to get going. After lunch I made sure to go for my run, which I am happy to report has become a part of my daily routine. I am at six miles for the week…after challenging myself to run ten in total. That leaves me with four miles to do in three days. I definitely like my odds there. And if I can do MORE than ten…even better.
Took Meggy to her tutor after school (Huntington Learning Center), and then on the way home we stopped at the local park for a little quality play time together. It was absolutely gorgeous out and Meghan asked me to stop for a little while. Far be it from me to deprive my beautiful little girl of a chance to have some fun while getting some exercise at the same time. Got home around 7 o’clock and Meg was lookin’ BEAT. Made a light dinner (chicen with rice and vegetables, salad on the side), did the daddy-daughter thing for a while and got her into bed early. Definitely a good day. And the best part for me is that after working out in the morning, jogging this afternoon and running around the park with Meg after school, I have officially done my physical work for the day…YAY!
Every once in awhile before I sign off I like to make a shout out to the one…or sometimes more than one…friend who is celebrating a birthday on the day of my particular blog. Today oddly enough, there are three. Happy birthday to my former schoolmate Sharyse Leclaire, my awesome neighbor Sandra AND my co-worker and constant source of inspiration, Samantha Chan. Hope you all had a great day today…with many more to follow. Oh yeah, and a quick shout out to Bucky Dent McDermott as well. Bucky was my very first pet as a kid. He was a beagle/shepherd mix who was born on May 2, 1980. He was my mom’s favorite child, gave us a million great memories over 13 years, and my brother never would have let me hear the end of it if I didn’t mention him. So there you have it….!
Until tomorrow!
