A Life Worth Weighting For - April 30th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

Ahhhhhhhh! Now that is the sound of a guy who is feeling well rested today. It’s not a statement I get to make very often either….but I promise to work on that. Yesterday after working on the computer all day I trekked into work for my weekly visit to the family. Trying to be a good son and brother and all that…hopefully somebody notices one day…lol. Dropped in to see my mom at her rehab center. No real changes with her…really sad to know who my mom was and now to see who she has become. After that uplifting visit, my dad and I went to dinner together at guess where? Cronins! Shocked right? Ha ha ha. Actually, the shocking part was that my brother….totally off the grid on his own little trip these days…decided to join us. It was cool having us all together.

Dropped them both off and got back to the house (The Big Empty) around ten o’clock or so. Took care of a few little things here and there and then crawled into bed around 11 o’clock. I am happy to say that I slept like a ROCK…straight through til 8:30 this morning. Might not sound like much to you, but for me 9 hours is a weekend! Got up refreshed…ready to meet the day head on. And a pretty good day it was too. Started with egg whites with fat free cheese and whole wheat toast…some sliced peaches on the side…..YUM! For lunch I had a turkey sandwich with a caesar salad on the side. Went for my daily run not long after lunch. Doing a mile and a half a day now to start…my goal for the week is ten miles. I am up to three as of today. So I am off to a good start but need to stay on top of it.

In the afternoon I was told that an old friend of mine may be able to illustrate the children’s book I just wrote…which sent me into orbit! I’ll let you know how that works out. Hard work is being done and good things are coming though. Coincidence? I doubt it. I took Meggy to her swimming class in the early evening. She is sooooo comfortable in the water. My own little mermaid….lol. Dropped her at her mom’s after the class…the hardest part of any day for me (love you Meggy!)…and then I headed into the city to kick some butt on job number two along with my youthful ward Cody (I hope you older Batman fans got that last reference). Just got in at about 1:30 in the a.m. Feeling tired but accomplished. A trade-off I will happily make any day of the week. And now my friends, it is off to bed after another long day in the trenches. Hope yours was a good one too…

Until tomorrow!
