A Life Worth Weighting For - April 22nd, 2013 by Donald McDermott
Since baseball season is officially underway once again (GO YANKEES!), I thought I would start off today’s entry with a quick little reference to our national pastime. When a major league pitcher is struggling during a game, announcers will often say that “he doesn’t have his best stuff today.” Meaning that he is just grinding it out. Fighting his way through. Even though it’s just not coming as easily to him as it might at other times. Well my dear reader, I am here to tell you that today I really don’t have my best stuff. I am coming off a reeeeaaaallly stressful work week. Followed by a busy weekend that included chasing around a hyperactive 9-year old AND playing a whoooole lotta softball that this weary 40-plus year old carcass just isn’t used to anymore (but I will get there).
Then to top it all off, I stayed up until around 3:30am last night prepping myself for the day ahead…and was back at my computer bright and early today at 9am. I was going to go with the phrase “bright-eyed and bushy tailed” but honestly I sooooo wasn’t either of those things today. I am feeling beat up from the feet up people. Tore up from the floor up. A wreck up…from the neck up. Lol…..again, exaggerating just a tad maybe…but I do love all of those phrases. The good news is that I stopped by the scale on the way to my home office this morning…and was happy to see that I lost another pound. I was hoping to lose 20 by the time the 5K at the Bronx Zoo rolled around. It this coming Saturday now and I am at 15 pounds.
I am not thrilled that I didn’t hit my goal, but 15 pounds is 15 pounds….and for right now I will take it. And on a day where I don’t have my best stuff, I’m going to keep myself in the game. Finishing up work later this afternoon, then heading into Queens to see my mom, visit with my dad, and swing into Forest Hills for a meeting with my Calling All Nerds compatriots, Jesse and Cody. Then it’ll be home for what I am hoping will be a nice, long workout with Monday Night RAW playing in the background. Followed by a hot shower to loosen up my old muscles, and a good, long night’s sleep. Sounds like a plan to me…all I have to do now is put that plan into effect. I’ll let you know how that works out for me.
Until tomorrow!
