A Life Worth Weighting For - April 20th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

Hoooooo-boy!

I am officially old. Let me tell ya, if you are only as old as you feel, then I am easily a hundred! LOL. Okay, so maybe I am exaggerating just a touch. But as I am writing this I will tell you that my hands are about the only part of me that aren’t sore right now. I got a little bit of a reprieve last week when my first official league softball game was rained out. Today it was time to face my fears head on though.  Not only did I have my first game tonight, but I had my first TWO. Apparently I will be playing double-headers every Saturday….I don’t believed I was informed of this. Well, my daughter did sign me up, so maybe they told HER and she figured daddy could handle it. Remind me to “thank” my little girl for that again…lol. Well I got to the field out in Bellport at 3:30pm for practice before my 5 o’clock game. Practiced for a little over an hour, running myself all over the field. In retrospect it probably wasn't the best idea…but you know….in the moment and all that. Well I am happy to report that I really had nothing to worry about at all.

In a nice, comfortable, minimally competitive atmosphere, I personally had two pretty good games. Got some nice solid hits, drove in a few runs, scored a few times and in a blast from the past I even got to pitch in game two. My team won the first game and lost the second. Not a bad start. The long drive home from the field gave me some time for the momentum and adrenaline to die out…so I limped myself through the door at almost 9pm tonight. And after more than an hour of practice followed by back to back games, I am definitely feeling it. During the day today I told myself that when I got home tonight I would make up for the busy work week by getting in an extra workout in the house. Unfortunately, I am pretty wiped out physically and emotionally right now. I think that instead I am going to take a nice, long shower and then probably crawl into bed for the night. Ahhhhhh, how the mighty have fallen. Lol. Good night all. Annnnnnnd…..

Happy 4/20 for all of you green thumb havin’ grass lovers out there.

Until tomorrow!
