A Life Worth Weighting For - April 10th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

Today was quite the productive day. For one thing, I put in my usual 9am-5pm(ish) “office” hours at my primary bread-winning job as the proud managing editor of PARENTGUIDE News. A job in which I have recently taken on even MORE responsibility…and not only welcomed it…but have so far ROCKED it (I think anyway – lol). For another thing, I went to my Wednesday evening parenting class at the local church. It is a 12-week series that deals with different aspects of parenting. Tonight was week number four…the dangers of the media on our kids.

Not bad so far. It has been informative….a lot of it is common sense parenting to me. Be open, be honest, listen to your kids, etc….with a little bit of the lord mixed in for good measure. I figure if I can learn a little something then why not? It’s an hour or so a week…and at the very least I get to see Meg for a little extra time on Wednesday nights (kids are downstairs while parents get their learn on in God’s house upstairs). So today was productive on I guess what you could call a professional, and perhaps even a spiritual level.

All that was left to cover was the physical level…and that part of it was all up to me. I had to head over to Meggy’s school today to pick up some paperwork. So rather than drive, I took advantage of the nice (FINALLY) Spring day and walked there and back on my lunch break. A little over a mile…..burned off 160 calories. Not a bad start. Then I walked to the church and back tonight for the class….3 miles total….and just over 260 calories. Now I am heading down to the comfort of the man cave to top the night off with some simple stretching on the mats. I think you can call that a well-rounded day. Here’s hoping that I can keep that going for tomorrow!
