A Life Worth Weighting For - March 26th, 2013 by Donald McDermott
I think that traditionally, people see Mondays as the toughest day of the week. First day back to work after the weekend. First day back to school. Time to get yourself moving again. Even Garfield the cat hates Mondays. Lol. For me, I think that Tuesday is my Monday…if that makes any sense at all. Monday is my weigh-in day. All of my work during the week leads up to the scale on Monday morning. The day when the truth gets told. And since I haven’t gained any weight back in my first five weeks of this little journey of mine, Mondays have generally been pretty good to me. Tuesdays on the other hand, tend to be a different story. Tuesday is my first day back to “work” where my health and fitness are concerned.
And because it is sooooo easy to lose your focus, I try to be as good as possible when Tuesday rolls around. So I played it safe with oatmeal and some fruit for breakfast. A sandwich and some steamed veggies for lunch. And a caesar salad with grilled chicken for dinner. Oh yeah....I almost forgot. The other good thing about Tuesdays for me….is what’s on TV. These days I can probably count on one hand how many shows I go out of my way to watch. As luck would have it, two of those shows are on Tuesday night. First at 8 o’clock was NCIS (or as my dad calls it….Gibbs and the boys. Lol). I know this is going to sound a little silly, but I decided to run in place for the entire hour that it was on. I looked at it like being on a treadmill…just without the treadmill.
And by the time Gibbs and Co. saved the day at 8:57 or so, I was sweating and breathing heavy. Then at 10 o’clock on FX there’s Justified. Based on an Elmore Leonard novel, it focuses on a Deputy U.S. Marshall keeping the peace in the backwoods of Kentucky where he was raised. Season 4 is coming to a close soon…and it really is a great show. The acting and chemistry of actors Timothy Olyphant (Raylan Givens) and especially Walton Coggins (Boyd Crowder) is worth the price of admission every week. Now while Justified was on, I broke out my trusty deck of cards and enjoyed a round of sit-ups, push-ups, leg extensions and squats. Not a bad way to start out the week if I do say so myself. At the very least I feel like I will be ready for whatever tomorrow brings.
Until tomorrow!
