A Life Worth Weighting For - March 24th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

Wheeeeew……I thought that yesterday was a long day. Little did I know it was just a prelude to what was on the horizon for today. Started out bright and early, making breakfast for me and my little girl. Egg whites and fat-free cheese with honey wheat toast for me….waffles with fresh fruit on the side for her. If it was up to the Meg-Monster she would go out to eat every day. But I actually enjoy cooking for her…and will continue to…whether she likes it or not. Lol. From there it was off to church for Palm Sunday (can you believe Easter is only a week away already?). After that, Megs and I had just enough time to head home, sandwiches and smoothies for lunch, and then change and head out the door for softball practice. It was good to be out on the field to help the kids out. I really like being a part of it…and anything that keeps both Meg and me active and moving around is okay in my book. Although to quote the team’s actual coach….

….“it would be a lot better if we were playing softball and it was 60 degrees instead of 30.” At least it wasn’t snowing…for now. Sadly, after practice it was time to drop Meghan off with her mom. Still have the hardest time letting go of her…but I am learning to make the most of the time that I have with her when we ARE together….as opposed to moaning about the times that we are NOT together. After a loooong good-bye hug I fired-up the Transit and headed into my old Queens stomping grounds. A few months back a few close friends of mine and I started our own website. If you go to www.callingallnerds.com, you will find really good articles on “nerd-drivin” topics such as movies, TV, football, comics, movies and pro wrestling (my blog is also there). You can also find “Shoots and Ladders,” our very own pro wrestling podcast. Yesterday we had the really good fortune of interviewing the very cool owner and operator of Pro Wrestling Syndicate…an indy wrestling company based in New Jersey that we all attend pretty often (Meghan loves it too). Good interview and a good time.

Later in the night, Cody (my long-time friend and one of my two C.A.N. partners) turned to me and said “it is really starting to feel like we’re DOING something.” Not sure if that means anything to the average reader…but I definitely got what he meant…and I agree. Things in my life are finally starting to fall into place after months of hellish emotional chaos. And last but never least, after a totally YUMMY dinner of grilled chicken over rice with a salad, Cody and I headed out to work. My second job bringing PARENTGUIDE to the Manhattan masses….it’s that time again! Limped through the door at about 3:30am…disappointed that I didn’t get to see tonight’s Walking Dead….but definitely feeling accomplished from the past few days. Good work, good health, good times with my beautiful little girl. No matter what comes up on the scale in a few hours, I still can’t complain. Things are pretty good…and I am still moving forward.

Until tomorrow!
