A few years ago when I first decided it was time to get myself going in a better direction where my health was concerned, I searched for a goal to strive for. Something down the road that I could work to get myself ready for. What I found was the Warrior Dash. Described on its own website as “the craziest fricken day of your life,” it is an annual event held in different states all over the U.S. It is basically a 5K run, with a dozen or so obstacles thrown in just for fun. You find yourself running up a mountain, jumping over fire, crawling through mud, scaling walls and all that fun kinda stuff. Oh yeah, coming in the most outrageous costume you can think of? Totally encouraged…and LOTS of people respond to that challenge. So I have done the Warrior Dash twice now…once in the rain.

So the ground was even slicker….the obstacles even tougher….the mud even muddier. Still, a fun experience…and a challenge I am proud of myself for tackling head on. Now fast forward a few years. I always find myself looking for new challenges to face. It’s kinda weird when an event called The WARRIOR Dash becomes the same old same old…lol. I have to say though, that while cruising the net for the next big thing, I discovered that these kind of runs are EVERYWHERE! The have them in all shapes and sizes too. From the Spartan Run to the Tough Mudder (gotta love the name)…to the Mud Run right out here in my own backyard of Long Island, and of course, the one that started it all for me…The Warrior Dash. So there are definitely a lot to choose from.

Plenty to keep me challenged and pushing myself between now and the end of this summer. There is even one called The Zombie Run. Same deal basically. You run through the woods….for three miles (5K)….except you get chased by people made up as zombies! Gotta say I am a little bit on the fence about this one. I am a HUGE fan of the zombie genre in movies. I also LOVE the Walking Dead on cable TV. If you’re not watching, you totally should be. HOWEVER…I live in a big empty house hat faces the woods. Maybe nightmares about being chased by zombies is NOT what I need right now. There are still plenty of others out there though….and I plan to be a part of as many as possible.

Until tomorrow!
