A Life Worth Weighting For - March 18th, 2013 by Donald McDermott
Yesterday was Happy St. Patrick’s Day…and today is HAPPY MONDAY! Why you ask? Well I will be even more happy to tell you. Because while most people were spending this morning recovering from their green-tinted weekend, I was stepping on my scale. The results were good obviously, otherwise it wouldn’t be Happy Monday. Please try to keep up. Lol. Anyway, I lost exactly three pounds this week…bringing me up to ten pounds lost so far. Not bad for my first four weeks. I had said in the beginning that my goal was to lose around two pounds a week.
As of this morning I am averaging 2.5 pounds…which is pretty cool. One of the first things I do after stepping off the scale on Mondays is send a text to my very best friend with the results. When she called to congratulate me, I reminded her of when we both joined Weight Watchers together waaaaaay back at the end of the 1990’s. In our first week there I lost 11.5 pounds…and she lost 13. I joked about how it takes me four weeks to get there now. She then reminded me that we were younger then, not to mention tha fact that I was around 400 pounds back then.
Most importantly….who cares about what WAS? It’s what IS that really matters. And I “is” ten pounds lighter now. She definitely has an interesting way of making me see things logically…lol. But she’s right. I am ten pounds lighter than I was a month ago. And with a little bit of luck and a lot of hard work I will be that much lighter next month at this time. The 5K at the Bronx Zoo on April 27th is the first hurdle I have set up for myself on this new journey. I plan to keep pushing so that I can clear that hurdle with no problem at all. I am feeling good and looking forward to the challenge. Hope everyone out there had a great weekend and is feeling good today too!
