And those well wishes go out to everyone today. Because as they say, “everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day!” Looking back, I have done my fair share of celebrating this day in the past. One year I met my best friend on my lunch break and we spent some time banging down mugs of green beer at Houlihans in the Empire State Building. Not a very productive afternoon when I got back to work. Another year I was in Cronin & Phelans, my favorite Astoria pub, watching one of my closest friends getting his shilaleigh polished right there at the bar (yep, that actually happened). And yet another year, I was in a group of nearly a dozen close friends, going nuts in the state of Florida.

Watching the NCAA “March Madness” tourny, eating bad food,

drinking all day and wondering where we could get a beer in Disney on St. Patrick’s Day. Has to be someplace, right? Otherwise it wouldn’t be the happiest place on Earth! Well that was then and this is now. This year I celebrated St. Patrick’s Day on my own, cleaning out my garage and straightening up my house. Am I a party animal or what? My how the mighty have fallen. Oh well, I might have toned myself down a little (a lot), but I know I am better off. As Dean Wormer once said, “Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.” I am probably the only person you know who is going to get on a scale the day after St. Paddy’s Day weekend.

And because of that, I made sure to be good all day long. Got to have lunch with Meggy today, which always rocks! After spending the rest of the afternoon in my garage, I baked chicken, a potato and black beans for dinner (YUM), then went downstairs and got in a quick workout while Rick and the Governor continued to fight it out on The Walking Dead in the background. All in all another good day and a good, solid, productive weekend. Not a bad way to celebrate my 4th week on the brand new road to building a new me. And now it’s off to bed. The mornings come early around here….and the scale will be waiting. Hope you had a good weekend too!
