A Life Worth Weighting For - October 14th, 2013

When I first started doing this blog what seems like an eternity ago, its purpose was more or less to keep me focused on losing weight and getting healthier. That hasn't changed of course. HOWEVER, I realized recently that when I do get to sit down and bang out a new entry, which is not frequently enough these days, I spend the bulk of my time talking about what I am doing as far as diet and exercise goes. What I don't talk about nearly as much is the person who inspired me to start getting healthier in the first place. That would be my daughter Meghan. Without even trying, My beautiful little girl inspires me every single day. She makes me smile, she makes me laugh, she makes me want to be the best person I can possibly be. In a lifetime full of woulda, coulda and shoulda, Meghan is the one thing that I am absolutely sure of.

And as her very proud father, I will always do whatever I can to make her happy. Especially if making her happy means doing something we can both enjoy together. So needless to say when she asked me if I would take her to Comic Con this year I was more than happy to agree! Lol. For the few of you who might not know, New York Comic Con is the east coast's biggest and most exciting pop culture convention. It is held annually at the Jacob Javits Center in the heart of New York City and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors over a 4-day period. The show floor plays host to the latest and greatest in comics, graphic novels, anime, video games, toys, movies and television. So there is literally something for everyone. Then there are the costumes. Did I mention that people are encouraged to come in their most creative attire? And boy do they ever.

It seems like Meg and I spent the bulk of our time taking pictures of (and with) everyone from Batman, Bane and Wonder Woman to The Wicked Witch of the West, Wolverine, the Ninja Turtles, and Poison Ivy (her favorite D.C. character, which kind of makes me nervous - lol). Meghan isn't even ten years old yet, but my girl has a confidence that I never had at that age. While I stopped to admire a Walking Dead display, she was browsing through the Archie Comics booth. While I was eyeing up some of the new video game releases, she was checking out the Mega Blocks, a display case full of WWE wrestlers, and the new Monster High dolls coming out in the spring of 2014 (her favorite by far).  I would like to think that we burned off a few calories throughout the day. My feet definitely hurt by the time we got back on the train eight or so hours later, that's for sure.

If there is one tough part of the whole Comic Con experience for me, it was finding something remotely healthy to eat for lunch. That is easier said than done. Meghan was thrilled with a hot dog and a unique concoction that I kid you not, was mac & cheese in an ice cream cone. I think the minute she started eating it, I decided subconsciously that I would wait until dinner. All in all though, Comic Con 2013 was an amazing experience for thie dynamic father-daughter duo, and I can't think of a single person I would have rather been with. Mostly because their isn't one. This was our second year there together. Definitely the first of many more to come. I am hoping to get Meghan to agree to go in costume with me next year. That could be our own motivation for the next twelve months. Losing weight to fit into a great costume at Comic Con 2013. Hey, whatever gets you to your goal.

Until we meet again.
