A Life Worth Weighting For - June 26th, 2013 by Donald McDermott
- Adversity introduces a man to himself.
When you lead a somewhat hectic life as I often seem to do, there are going to be times when certain things seem to fall right on top of other things. I felt that way today. Last night I more or less went for a run, worked out, and went to bed. Then because of a busy schedule today, I hopped out of bed this morning and went for my jog right away. It honestly felt like I had JUST run and now I was running again. I guess that’s not such a bad thing in retrospect. Hopefully it shows on the scale for me next week. Looking forward to those 240’s…and then getting out of them. So by 9:30 this morning I had gotten my three miles in the books for the day. As tough as it was to roll out of bed and immediately start jogging, it was definitely nice to have it done and off my mind first thing in the a.m.
By noon I was back in my Astoria hometown, having lunch with a couple`a co-workers, discussing a few ways to make PARENTGUIDE even better for the future. From the Neptune diner at the foot of the Triboro Bridge I headed into Long Island City to my company’s printer. It is time for job number two again…oy. Loaded up the rusty/trusty mini-van, braved the rush hour traffic on the LIE and headed back to my Long Island homestead. I met Meghan and her mom over at her local church, where former professional wrestler “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase was the guest speaker. Ted was one of the wrestlers I remember the most from the late 80’s and the early 90’s. He made an impression on me for the first time almost 25 years ago when he came to the then WWF.
I have to say that he made an even GREATER impression on me in person tonight. He told us the story of how he overcame obstacles in life, became one of the top wrestlers in the world, and ultimately found God. Definitely an eye-opening night and I am glad that I was there to see it. The only bad part of the whole experience is that when the service was over, I had to drive all the way BACK into Queens, pick up my faithful sidekick Cody, and THEN get into the city to start delivering. Just stumbled through the door at around 5am. The sun was coming up and the birds were already chirping. Stupid birds…lol. Definitely a full day (and night) all around. Time to get some sleep now though. Gotta be up and back on the clock for the day job by 9:30am…and that always comes pretty fast around here.
Until tomorrow!
