A Life Worth Weighting For - June 19th, 2013 by Donald McDermott
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.” – Aristotle
Okay, so today was finally the kind of day that I have been looking for. The kind of day where all the aspects of my little personal fitness journey seemed to come together in unison. First of all, I was good at every meal. Started with scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast. A turkey sandwich and a small side salad for lunch. And last but not least, baked chicken thighs with red beans and rice and a side of broccoli for dinner…YUM. All prepared at home by my more than capable hands of course. Before lunch I went for my run. Today was a 4-mile day and I SOOOOO didn’t want to do that on a full stomach.
Plus, I mentioned before that I find I am less in the mood to eat something heavy when I am all hot and sweaty from my run. Then after dinner, I went down to the man cave, put on my DVR-ed premiere episode of the new season of True Blood, and got in a good workout. Started with 100 reps of sit-ups, push-ups, squats and leg extensions, followed by 100 reps with some very light weights. And I know I might upset some of the show’s loyal followers, but in the end I was a lot more satisfied with my workout than I was with True Blood.
For my birthday this year, my awesome daughter used her own money to get me the latest (and last) Sookie Stackhouse book that the show is derived from. There are more than a dozen books in total and I have read them all. I’ve liked some more than others but pretty much enjoyed `em all. The HBO series started out just like the books. As the series went on they kept a few things here and there, but went off on their own a little bit. Now, in the start of what I think is the fifth season I have no idea where they are headed. I hope I like it a lot more as it goes on. For right now it gives me something to glance at while I get my exercise for the day.
Until tomorrow!
