A Life Worth Weighting For - June 10th, 2013 by Donald McDermott
“You'll never get ahead of anyone as long as you try to get even with him.”

There’s nothing like one week ending on a high note, then having the new week start off on an equally high note. I say this with confidence too, since it rarely ever happens to me. Lol. Luckily this was one of those rare times. If you read my blog yesterday (shame on you if you didn’t) then you know I had an awesome day celebrating the christening of a friend’s beautiful little baby. Well today I got to celebrate the night with someone just a touch or two older. This evening I joined my brother, my sister, my dad, my cousin Sean and his girlfriend at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
We were there to enjoy a great night of music with Paul McCartney. Call me an old softee, but I love it when I get to spend time with my family and my friends…it’s just a good feeling when it is for the right reasons. Knowing we would all be hanging out got me in the right mind set right off the bat. Then, I fondly remembered that the second concert I had ever gone to in my life…waaaay back for my 18th birthday about a zillion years ago…was Paul McCartney at Giants Stadium. So I had a little nostalgia thing going on too. The third thing I got from the experience was a little bit of inspiration.
You know how they say that life begins at 40? Well as I turned the corner onto my 40th birthday a few years back I wondered if that was true. Then tonight I am sitting at the concert and let me tell you, he made it look effortless. Sir Paul looked great, sounded great, interacted with the audience, played guitar, piano and sang for three hours. He never took a break or a sip of water that I could see….and he is 71 years old! Now the odds are that I won’t be doing that at 71…but it sure gives me hope that as long as I take care of myself, there is a whoooole lot of life left for me to live.
Until tomorrow!
