A Life Worth Weighting For - June 4th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

                               - The expert in anything was once a beginner

Well, well, well….HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! I can say with total pride that I am offically 42 years old today. That might seem old to some…might seem young to others. To me it is just a number. It’s not the number of years in your life, but what you do during them that matters. And while I might not always feel great about where I have been 100% of the time, I remind myself that this journey of mine is going to take me someplace really special. I truly like the idea that I will be healthier at 42 than I was at 22. If you knew me back then….you know that I speak the truth. Those were not some of my better days. Luckily, I believe my best days are still in front of me.

I started off the first day of my 42nd year with my daily 3-mile run. It is becoming a part of my regular routine now. Wouldn’t say that I necessarily look forward to it…but I do enjoy how I feel once it is done. After putting in my regular work day in front of the computer as Managing Editor for PARENTGUIDE magazine, I went and picked my daughter Meghan up for her swimming lesson. She has loved the water for as long as I can remember. Not to mention the fact that I am always happy when she is doing anything physical. After swimming, Meg and I had dinner together.

Followed by a visit next door to our favorite Portuguese neighbors. We had a cake for my birthday. I myself, had tea and a granola bar. But the cake WAS there. And everyone DID sing Happy Birthday. Which is always cool. Not much else to tell. Decided to take the night off from working job number two. Kind of a birthday present for myself. And while I would LOVE to get a workout in tonight, I’m taking a break from that too. I am going to celebrate my special day by trying to get a good night’s sleep. I think it’s the one present I truly need. Do I know how to celebrate or what? Lol. Hey, it’s my day…and it works for me….g’nite!

Until tomorrow!
