A Life Worth Weighting For - April 25th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
                           - St. Francis of Assisi

I promised myself when this week started that I would find ways to sort of kick my workouts up a notch. Nothing crazy drastic…not just yet anyway. But just a little something here and there ya know? Little steps lead to big changes they say. And don’t get me wrong. I am happy with losing fifteen pounds over the past two or so months, but I really feel like I could be doing more. So one of the ways I decided to boost things into another gear was for me to go for a jog every single day during the week. The benchmark is a mile and a half…from here to Meg’s school and back…Monday – Friday. Today is Thursday and I am happy to report that I have pushed myself to run every day this week so far. Definitely off to a good start.

I have always enjoyed jogging…as slow as I can be at times. It clears my mind and always makes me feel better and more accomplished once I’m done. And of course it doesn’t hurt that it is just about the best type of exercise you can do for yourself. As of today, I have clocked in at 6 miles for the week so far. That’s on top of my regular scheduled exercise activitities too of course. It might not sound like much. And for right now it might not be all that much. It’s a start though. If there is one thing I have learned over the past couple of years on my quest to be a better stronger, healthier person, it’s that it is a whole lot easier to stop than it is to start. So getting started in a positive new direction is always a good thing.

Until tomorrow!
