A Life Worth Weighting For - April 24th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

Talent is a wonderful thing, but it won't carry a quitter. ”
                                         ― Stephen King

I read the above quote on Facebook the other day. It was on a site called DDPYOGA. It is run by a former professional wrestler named “Diamond” Dallas Page. That’s the DDP part. These days he promotes a really successful form of easy to do yoga for anyone and everyone. That’s the yoga part. I’ve always said that you never know where inspiration is going to come from. For me recently, part of what inspires me can be found right there on that site. See while DDP’s yoga program has reached countless people lately, it is the way that he himself has reached out that I find really cool. Once upon a time there was another professional wrestler named Scott Hall. From the mid 1980’s to say the start of the new millenium, Scott Hall (known as Razor Ramon to a lot of WWE fans) had one of the most successful careers a pro wrestler/sports entertainer could hope for.

Unfortunately, what he has been most known for over the past decade of so are his battles with…and losses to….drugs and alcohol (personal demons they call them in his line of work). I’ll give you the short version here too….as compelling as the long version can be. A few months back, totally down on his luck, in pain and desperate, Scott got some much needed help from an old friend named Diamond Dallas Page. DDP and another recently transformed wrestler named Jake “The Snake” Roberts took him into his Atlanta home…the “Accountability Crib” they call it. Since that day Scott Hall has begun his own journey. A transformation of mind, body and soul. He has been clean and sober for close to three months now.

He seems happy, has a healthier outlook on life and thanks to a recent hip replacement surgery where a multitude of his fans came together to donate more than 100,000 to his cause (me included), Scott is literally back on his feet and getting ready to start DDPYOGA training too. I have been a pro wrestling fan since I was a kid. And in a business filled with tragic stories, I love it when there is a chance to celebrate a great one. If Scott Hall can change himself in his mid-50’s after decades of struggles, I’m sure that I can keep pushing myself to overcome the struggles in my own life. And having said that, I am heading out for what I am going to make my daily run. Best wishes and good luck to Scott Hall….a great source of inspiration, whether he realizes it or not.
