A Life Worth Weighting For - June 13th, 2013 by Donald McDermott

              - If it is important you will find a way. If it is not you will find an excuse.

For me personally, so much of what I go through as I strive to reach my goals become as much a learning experience as anything I do physically. In that respect, today was a lesson in both patience and discipline. I woke up today feeling good for the most part. Still a little bummed about Janie, a good friend that we all just lost. Her wake was last night in case you missed yesterday’s blog. So that is always tough. BUT…on the positive side of it, she isn’t in pain anymore. She also had an AMAZING turnout of people who loved her. AND she left her mark on a whole lot of people….family and friends alike…who will keep her memory alive even with her gone. So my mindset was good….and things are good all around.

Then I found myself dealing with a series of phone calls, emails and texts (all from the same person) that completely and totally threw me off my game. I ended up getting caught up in it when I should have just walked away from the argument altogether. Some people are just bitter and there is nothing you can do about that….so why even get sucked in? I let it get the better of me unfortunately and I missed my run in the afternoon. I made it up while Meghan was with her tutor later on...but I was FURIOUS at myself for losing my focus and steering myself off course like that. Not only that, but my head was so messed up from all of the back and forth nonsense all day, that when I did get out to run….

….it took just about everything I had to keep myself going. Now I know three miles is a pretty good distance. But I have been doing it long enough now that it shouldn’t have been nearly as difficult as it was….ugh. I have learned a lot about myself over the past few month since I started out on this little whatever it is of mine. Unfortunately, even after all of this time, I still have trouble walking away from situations that I know that I can’t change and have no business being a part of. Exercise, jogging specifically, has become a part of my regular daily routine now. Some days I do it instinctively, without even thinking about it. I am hoping to get to the same place where my patience is concerned.

Until tomorrow!
